I have been experimenting with different techniques and medium as part of some extra practical art study I have been undertaking. Here are a few recent experiments and workshop outcomes..

Summer Workshop

 

Summer: This is a number of my final outcomes for a summer workshop. 

I wanted to portray the heat of summer along with the Aussie bush and kids playing

Monotypes, prints and stamps with things such as wallpaper, bubble wrap and leaves.

Monumental Workshop

We drew an object many different ways and get to know it and then divide one of our images into 9 and draw each square in different media. I chose a stapler.

Coloured pencil, collage, ink, graphite pencil, chalk on black paper, charcoal, pastels, paint on newspaper and ink wash over wax candle (each segment is A3 size).

We had to choose three images, one architectural, one 2D pattern and another image, and then combine them into a new composition. It was the most challenging workshop as it was hard to get all three images working together well. But I got to experiment with lots of watercolour techniques.

Confetti

I would definitely make my own confetti with a hole punch and whatever coloured paper I wanted but you could also use different shaped hole punches.. hearts are an obvious good one, snow flakes for winter, leaves for autumn, music notes or other shapes to connect with the couples interests. You could also recycle different types of paper this way.. newspaper, books, music sheets, even dried leaves..

But you don't even need to use traditional confetti or paper.. what about.. rose petals, dried autumn leaves, pom poms!, sequins, streamers, ribbons, 100 and 1000's, herbs, popcorn, paper cranes!! and of course bubbles!

I am liking the idea of recycled paper into shapes like hearts but I think I may need to do a few experiments on how different papers fall. Tissue paper may be good if it floats down..

Em's other colleges

 Since our first attempt at college I have had more of a play in some art workshops I've done. Here are some outcomes. I found when trying to do abstract/chaotic images I was very rigid and orderly and found dropping scrap pieces onto the paper created a nice bit of haphazardness (my solution to creating chaos). I love mixing different textures, shapes and edges of paper into an abstract image and then finding the familiar in the abstract images. 

Yard Games

Outside games a heaps of fun! But what about classic games made giant to play outside, and I'm not just talking about giant chess sets, but giant Jenga, Yahtzee, Dominos, Scrabble, Connect-a-4, Pick-up-sticks, Kerplunk, Battleship as well as real life Quidditch and Angry Birds! I want to have a summer or spring party just so I can play them! Some would even be fun at a wedding reception!

Wow! Alexa Meade's work is a fantastic illusion, either photographed or as an installation the 2D-like painting she does over a 3D live surface creates such a great illusion, really making 3D look flat. Other artwork she uses warped mirrors to photograph the subject to create an abstract image or photographs in water or milk for different effects. Her milk what will you make of me? collaboration is a great example of the illusion of dimension, bluring the edges of 3D and 2D. Wow, wow, wow!!

"Milk: What will you make of me?" is a series where the model is submerged in a tub of milk. The milk becomes a canvas for the body paint, creating a unique and dynamic visual effect. The series explored the nature of the female form and the creative process of painting on a living, moving canvas.

Using the same idea, turning 3D faces into 2D images, photographer Alexander Khokhlov and make-up artist Valeriya Kutsan together have created these images based on paintings. Check out his other inspiring artworks on his website!
